Video about sowing pepper for seedlings

Hello dear friends!

It's time to sow sweet and hot peppers for seedlings. I live in central Ukraine, Dnepropetrovsk region, and basically I try to sow mid-season and early varieties or hybrids, starting from mid-February, in super-early varieties you can go online and a little later - in the first decade of March.

For sowing peppers for seedlings, I use different methods, but this year I wanted to use the simplest method and sow each variety in 400-gram disposable glasses without preliminary soaking and germinating the seeds, especially since this year I mainly sow imported hybrids - they have already been processed by the manufacturer and are fully prepared for sowing. It is recommended to sow such treated seeds without soaking, so as not to wash off the protective shell with which they are covered.

On February 14, I already sowed three varieties of sweet peppers and 1 variety of hot peppers, and today, using the example of another early-maturing hybrid, called Gemini F1, I will show you how to sow pepper on seedlings in such a simple way.

Soil for pepper seedlings

The most important thing is to choose the right soil for sowing pepper. I usually grow all my seedlings in purchased substrates for seedlings, but the fact is that the acidity of such substrates is usually 5.5-6 ph, that is, with a slightly acidic reaction, and for pepper this is not the most suitable soil, since it loves neutral acidity , and therefore, before sowing, it is necessary to reduce the acidity of the substrate. I do this by adding a little chalk. You can also use wood ash or lime, only necessarily slaked.

Preparing the container

I cut the bottom of the glass with scissors in several places - holes are obtained for draining excess water during watering. And so that nothing spills out when filling the cup with soil, I cover the bottom with a small piece of toilet paper. Also, this piece of toilet paper will protect the windowsill or table where the pepper seedlings will stand from the outflow of dirty water during watering.

I fill the glass with soil and compact. A distance of at least 2 cm should remain from the surface of the compacted soil to the top of the cup. I moisten the soil in the cup and wait until the water is well absorbed.

Planting pepper seeds

I begin to spread the seeds on the surface with a distance of 2-3 cm from each other.Since there is a possibility that not all the seeds will sprout, I sow from 10 to 15 seeds in one such cup, and I will grow the seedlings this way until 2-3 appear on the seedlings real leaves.

The seeds need to be moistened so that they can better saturate the moisture. I cover it with a layer of soil of 1.5 centimeters, again I compact the soil for better contact of the seeds with the earth. And I water it on top again.

I will glue a piece of masking tape with the name of the variety and the date of sowing. I cover the top of the glass with a transparent film, making a greenhouse, and fix the film with an elastic band. A glass with crops will need to be placed in a warm and not necessarily bright place with a temperature of 25-28 degrees before shoots appear. I put my glasses on the windowsill on a sheet of styrofoam and near the radiators. As soon as shoots begin to appear in any glass, I will remove the film and install a bicolor lamp for additional additional illumination.

This is how I decided to sow pepper this year and sowed eggplants in the same way. This concludes the story, I wish you all strong seedlings and rich harvests this year. All bye and see you soon!

Planting pepper in peat tablets for seedlings

To get a good harvest in the future, you need to grow healthy and strong seedlings. When growing, pepper seedlings require special care: it is necessary to ensure sufficient soil moisture, a certain temperature regime and high illumination. In addition, she does not like transplants. The roots of young plants are weak and thin and easily damaged. In order not to stress the seedlings, it is recommended to grow pepper seedlings in peat tablets.

When to plant sweet peppers for seedlings: timing

When growing various crops, you always need to know the optimal planting dates. When to plant pepper seeds for seedlings in 2021, in what month? Estimated sowing time - end of February-beginning of March.

However, in different regions, due to differing climatic conditions, the timing is different: in the Middle Lane - the second half of February, early March, in Siberia, the Urals, in the Leningrad region - mid, second half of March, in the South - early February.

You should also study the information on the packaging. The optimum sowing time of the crop should be indicated there.

Preparing pepper seeds for the sowing procedure

Pepper seeds have a long germination capacity, so they should be germinated before sowing.

It will not be superfluous to disinfect the selected seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for half an hour.

Place the seeds in the center of the napkin, wrap and moisten copiously with water. Next, put on a saucer and wrap in a plastic bag.

Place the seed dish in a warm environment. For example, put on a battery. Keep track of the sufficient moisture of the napkin, it should not be dry. Within three to four days, the seeds will swell and sprouts will appear.

Preparing the ground for tomato seedlings

For sowing seedlings, you can use a ready-made store-bought soil mixture or prepare it yourself.

Part of rotted humus or compost,

Part of sod or leafy land

A glass of wood ash or crushed chalk and a tablespoon of complex mineral fertilizers are added to 10 liters of soil mixture. Everything is thoroughly mixed.

To disinfect the soil mixture, it is heated in the oven at a temperature of 100 degrees for 1 hour. The heated mixture is poured into a container for planting and spilled with a hot purple solution of potassium permanganate

Caring for pepper seedlings after germination at home

As soon as the first shoots appear, remove the cover and rearrange the seedlings in the brightest place. To prevent the seedlings from stretching, we lower the temperature to 18 ° C for 5-7 days. Then we increase it in the daytime to 25 ° C, at night to 20 0 C, if possible.

The room must be regularly ventilated, but drafts must be avoided.

We put a layer of cardboard between the window sill and the pallets with seedlings so that the cold does not come from below. We also make a small shelter between the glass and the pallets.

Lighting

To grow strong plants, do not forget to arrange additional phyto lighting or a fluorescent lamp (40, 80 W) - in the morning from 6 to 10 am, in the evening from 4 pm to 9 pm. On cloudy days, the lamp can work all day. They should be located 7-10 cm higher than the seedlings.

If you use an ordinary incandescent lamp, then place it further from the seedlings, more than 70 cm from them.

Also, do not forget to rotate containers with plants around their axis so that they do not lean towards the light source (window).

Proper care of seedlings consists in watering, feeding and loosening

Proper watering

During the period of seed germination, it is advisable to moisten the soil with clean, warm, settled water from a spray bottle (spray bottle). It is also necessary to air the seedlings twice a day for 10-15 minutes. Thanks to this, condensation will not form, which will protect the soil from mold and fungal diseases.

After the leaves appear, watering is done gently under the roots in the morning, once every 5-6 days. For such a jewelry operation, a small watering can, a syringe, and a pipette are suitable.

A moisture-loving plant, requires frequent watering and does not tolerate even temporary drying of the soil. Therefore, we closely monitor the condition of the soil. But excess moisture can also provoke disease.

Loosening

We all know that if the soil is only watered, a crust will form on it in the future. It will not allow oxygen to penetrate into the ground to the roots of plants.

Therefore, after each moistening, we carry out loosening. This should be done very carefully to a depth of no more than 5-7 mm, so as not to damage the root system, it is more convenient to do this with a fork.

Feeding pepper seedlings at home with folk remedies

We all know that without a vitamin supplement it will be difficult for plants, they will grow weak. With the harvest, they will not please us, respectively. And with top dressing, the quality and taste of the fruit improves.

Well suited for this:

ash - it can be poured around the sprouts away from the roots (1 tsp for 3-4 seedlings) and loosen the soil with a fork

eggshell - grind and fill with water, infused for 3-4 days (for 3 liters of water 10 - 15 pieces of shell)

  • solution "Kemira", "Zdraven"
  • liquid chicken droppings
  • or horse extract
  • complex mineral fertilizers (ammonium nitrate, superphosphate and potassium fertilizers)

Dilute strictly according to the instructions.

First feeding we begin 15 days after germination or when 2 true leaves appear.

Second feeding we spend 2 weeks after the first one.

The third - 2-3 days before transplanting to a permanent place.
We carry out top dressing after watering in the morning.

If the seedlings develop slowly and the leaves have become light green, it is necessary to feed it (for 10 liters of water, 2 tablespoons of liquid mineral fertilizer, 1 tablespoon of potassium humate for vegetable crops, 10 g of the growth regulator Kornevin).

Hardening of seedlings

2 weeks before transplanting plants to a permanent place in the ground, it is imperative to harden them. Otherwise, our work will be lost. This is the process by which plants become accustomed to the new climate.

In the first days, we take out the pots with seedlings in warm weather in a cool room for 15 - 20 minutes. Then gradually increase the time to 60 minutes or more. Then we leave them there to spend the night, but with a covering material.

It is very important for the first time to cover them from the bright sun and protect them from drafts.

Video on how to dive pepper

From the video you will find out when and how the correct picking of pepper seedlings is done.

When transplanting plants from one container to another, it will not be superfluous to look at the lunar calendar.

Diseases of pepper seedlings and their treatment

With proper care and cultivation, the seedlings do not suffer and are not affected by diseases. But if this happened, first we will find out the causes and type of the disease.

The first and most dangerous disease that most often occurs is blackleg, the root part of the stem turns black, dries up and the plant dies.

A sign that our pet is sick is a stop in growth.

In order to avoid this, we sow seeds in a common box not thickly, often do not water and ventilate the room (without drafts).

This disease occurs with high soil moisture.

At the first signs of the disease, water the seedlings with a solution of potassium permanganate (1.5 g per 10 liters of water). If the seedlings are still immature (at the age of 3-4 leaves), they cannot be treated and dies. We immediately get rid of it and partially with the earth.

Late blight is a dangerous disease, although our vegetable is less susceptible to it. But at the first sign, we treat it with Trichoderma. Dilute strictly according to the instructions.

Signs of the disease - gray-brown spots appear on the leaves.

But still, it is better to prevent the disease than to cure it later.

Therefore, we process planting material, containers and land. We monitor soil moisture. We ventilate the room (no drafts). Observing simple rules, we will succeed.

Pepper is very useful, it is a vitamin concentrate and surpasses all vegetables in the content of vitamin C, potassium, calcium. Possesses bactericidal properties, is a natural preservative. It is recommended to be eaten in large quantities for those who are easily irritated (this is not enough potassium).

In terms of taste, it is divided into sweet (leguminous) and pungent (bitter, spicy) and is considered perennial, only cultivated as an annual plant in our climate. If it is moved to a warm room for the winter, it will grow and bear fruit further.

I tried to reveal all the secrets of growing and, most importantly, care for seedlings.

If you have any questions or want to share your secrets on growing a very tasty vegetable, write in the comments. While.

Leaving after a pick

For normal development, seedlings need to be fed. The first feeding can be carried out 14 days after the pick. For this, organic or any complex fertilizers are suitable. In well-growing plants, the crown should be light green and the main leaves should be dark green.

If the picking of seedlings is carried out correctly and proper care is provided, then you, like many gardeners, will have a rich harvest of this wonderful, albeit whimsical culture.
